Ep. 02 Balancing Work & Life as a Death Investigator with Lara Newell
From a pre-med major to a Medicolegal Death Investigator to the Long Term Unidentified Coordinator for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Lara Newell is no stranger to difficult roles. This week on the Forensics Found Podcast, host Katharine Pope sits down with Lara and discusses how motherhood has enabled her to create a balance between her job and life as a last responder. Lara shares candidly about how she was able to reframe her thinking while struggling with the internalization of situations and how she can better manage a work-life balance despite the often overwhelming demands of this role.
When it comes to working in the field of forensics, Lara has one important piece of advice - to make sure you have something you love to come home to. After a long and difficult shift having a bright spot - an activity, hobby, or pursuit that brings you joy – is essential. Most importantly, it will give you something meaningful to look forward to at the end of the day.
It is an inspiring conversation you don’t want to miss!
