An easy way to determine your values
Happy July y’all! I’m in the great state of Texas for a few weeks; eating all of the tacos, soaking in the sun, and spending some much needed time with family. In our line of work, we know just how short life can be. I don’t want to wait until there is an emergency to visit my relatives; I don’t want to wish that we had spent more time together; I don’t want to feel guilty about what more I could have done. So while I have the time, I choose to fill it with the people, places, and things that align with my values most. Yes, I hear you asking, oh my gosh a few weeks with family?! I’d go crazy! And we do go crazy. Trust me, my bed will never feel so good when I get home… But visits like these re-affirm my dedication to certain principles and standards I hold close to me in my own house. Something as simple as the type of food we eat all the way to the tone we use with my children and each other.
If y’all are interested in learning more about yourself and your values, I recommend this little homework project – take about five minutes to identify them using this worksheet. Enjoy it!
Before I say “Happy Fourth of July,” I’d also like to pass along two training conferences for death investigators:
the MidAtlantic Cold Case Homicide Investigators Association (MACCHIA) in Annapolis MD August 3-5 (https://coldcasehomicide.org)
the International Forensic Medicine Association in beautiful Daytona Beach FL September 27-29 (http://ifma-web.org/)
Cheers!
Kat
