Stay above 50%

It's GO time - the holidays are coming! On top of that, next week, I'll be single parenting for a few weeks while my husband takes care of family things in Texas. For me, it can be easy to "future-trip" and start struggling before work and life duties even begin to pull me every which way. This year, I am focusing on remaining present and cultivating the calm.

I will stay charged above 50% - I will do the things that recharge my batteries. I will listen to music I love. I will ride my Pelotwinn (it's a knock-off, y'all) and do yoga. I will let myself get some extra sleep when I can and I will share when I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Did you know you can tell people (even your kids) that you’re tired, sad, bored, lonely, worried, anxious, overwhelmed?? It’s not complaining! You can ask a loved one to listen and you can ask for a hug, or whatever you need to vent and then get back to 50%. Those extra efforts won't change my kids’ outnumbering me or the constant flow of cases at work. But moving, resting, and connecting calms ME in the moment. When there is peripheral chaos and resistance around me, I can focus inward and control what I can – ME.

You can too. Get curious about yourself and ask “what benefit do you get when you take the actions that need to be taken? Is it possible to see this as something you “get to do” rather than “have to do?” If you find yourself future-tripping about something that hasn't even happened yet, stop and take four deep breaths.
